The Double Game: Qatar's Volkswagen Veto and Germany's Iron Dome Workaround

In April 2026 Volkswagen signed a letter of intent with Rafael, Israel's state-owned missile-defense company, to build Iron Dome support hardware at its Osnabrück plant and save about 2,300 jobs. Within weeks the Qatar Investment Authority, VW's third-largest shareholder, moved inside the supervisory board to stop it.
